Experience:
17 years at IBM on the 4th level (highest) incident response team and Security Focal subject matter expert for the Global Network Engineering Department. Also managed proxies, load balancers, and servers world wide.
8 years at HP as deskside support team lead and manager plus server management and remote access expert.
11 years as an independent computer consultant, contractor, and programmer.
Skills: I do Windows and Linux/Unix administration specializing in data recovery, security, and upgrades. I've designed and installed many networks and configured/managed servers, workstations, proxies, load balancers, routers, switches, firewalls, backup solutions, web servers, and middleware.
Clientele: Included IBM, HP, Intel, WaterPik, ADT, Colorado Dept of Transportation, Colorado State Police, Colorado State University, Computronics, Audio Communications Inc, Connecting Point, Applied Computer Technology, Optimus Corporation, plus many more corporations, realtors, attorneys. doctors, chiropractors, veterinarians, hotels, publishers, auto dealers, brokers, and retail stores plus many individuals.
Programming; I created custom programs for the Air Force Weapons Lab, Pentagon, and Colorado State University plus fixed software bugs and added features for many companies in house programs including Nevada Auto Sales, Applied Computer Technology, First Sierra Commodities and Optimus Corp.
Security has always been very important to me and is considered in all systems configuration.
Tutoring: I trained help desk personnel at Defense Logistics Services Center, National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and HP, plus many more small businesses and individuals. I mentored and tutored many people at HP and IBM on systems administration and security. Also worked with Computer Tutor Inc as an instructor.
Automation is common sense to me. That is what computers were made for. Every place I have worked I sought to automate anything that was repeated which includes software installation, configuration, updating, backups, and security scanning. This reduced cost for all my customers and employers. I have many success stories.
Pentagon: After creating a security review database and tracking program for the Air Force Weapons Lab Office of Public Affairs. They said they had 9 people before me attempt to create a usable program for them which had all failed so they would run my new program along with their paper process for a month to test it. After 3 days they said "Wow", we don't need to continue testing, this program follows our process exactly with each screen matching their paperwork, so there was no learning curve and it sped up the process by 90% and status inquiry responses down to 3 minutes instead of 4 hours. A few weeks later 8 people from the Pentagon showed up to ask how they were able to increase their productivity so greatly and so suddenly. They were shown my program. They stated they also had 9 people attempt to create a usable program which all failed. They asked if they could obtain a copy of the program to use in the Pentagon. I told them I was contracted to them as an hourly employee when I wrote it so they were welcome to have a copy.
College: 1. The instructor in my multi-user systems class would ask me every day to show my homework to the class. When the class was over the instructor said to me, "You know, you taught this class!", I responded yes and thank you for allowing me to do that. 2. The instructor in the data management class noticed myself and another student were bored after completing class assignments in less than 10 minutes while the rest of the class took the whole hour. The other student and myself were competing to see who finished first so the instructor asked if we would spend our extra time helping the other students which we both enjoyed doing.
First Sierra Commodities: I contracted to fix an in-house program. I rewrote the report process logic to reduce daily processing time from 7 hours to 7 minutes. The processing was so slow that the printer would time out and eject after only 1/4 or less of the page was printed causing the very large report to use 5 reams of paper per day. I changed the report to save a local copy on the hard drive and provided a function to view it before printing the 400 page daily report.
More examples to come as I have time...
